FOR THOSE LIVING IN POVERTY, CLAIMANTS, CASUAL WORKERS, REFUGEES, SURVIVORS OF MENTAL HEALTH

We intend to initiate the setting up of unions for those groups ignored by unions and stimigmitised by society.
Claimants and those living in poverty, casual workers, the ununionised, refugees and surviors of the mental health system.
PEOPLE NOT PROFIT RECOGNISE ONLY BY US COMING TOGETHER AND SELF ORGANISING CAN WE BEGIN TO CHALLENGE ALL THAT IS IMPOSED ON US. THE ATTACKS WILL NOT CEASE UNTIL WE ORGANISE AND STAND UP.

"WE ARE INVISIBLE AND THE SYSTEM FEEDS ON US"

As part of the People not Profit Festival we held a series of public forums on Saturday May 5th determined to challenge the sense of isolation and powerlessness that Merseyside's many communities have had imposed upon them.
We are not an economic problem to be pondered over; we are a source of ideas, skills and strength. We remain ignored or set against each other to suit the political fashions of the times. These forums demanded a voice for those who have been forced into society's wilderness.

The forums were split into three categories;

2 - 3.30pm. The first allowed those suffering through poverty to speak of the real problems faced in trying to survive, in trying to find meaningful, sustainable employment.

4 - 5.30pm. The second gave a voice to the refugees in the area to answer prejudices about their situation. This is a city built upon the richness of its different communities and culture, yet people are still being victimised for their differences spurred on by people who do not understand the area.

6.30 - 8pm. The third gave a voice to all those who are survivors of the mental health system. They confronted attitudes of the media and health authorities about why people are separated from society as a result of depression and isolation, as well as how to deal with it.

We wanted this day to be the beginning of a new movement and for it challenge people into thinking about building a union of those unrepresented by society. It is now time to confront the life they have designed for us and demand an alternative.
